CONTRACTOR DEVICE TRUST FAQ
Contractor device trust and unmanaged device compliance, answered.
What IT admins and contractors ask about verifying unmanaged devices before Microsoft 365 access: privacy, data collection, device ownership, Entra Conditional Access, and installation.
Entra Conditional Access and compliance evidence
At sign-in, PosturePass evaluates each device against the policy you define and passes a compliance signal to Microsoft Entra. Your existing Conditional Access and MFA policies then make the allow-or-block decision natively, with no change to the contractor's sign-in flow. This closes the unmanaged device compliance gap without routing anyone through VDI.
Define your posture requirements in PosturePass, for example encryption on, antivirus active, supported OS version, and no risky remote-access tools. Then reference the compliance signal in a standard Entra Conditional Access grant control. PosturePass supplies the device-posture signal and Entra enforces it alongside your existing identity and MFA conditions. For bulk rollout across a contractor workforce, our team can walk you through Entra CA configuration and silent policy-group deployment.
Every check is timestamped and exportable: who signed in, which device, which controls were evaluated, the result, and whether the contractor fixed a failure. Customers can export records from the dashboard or through an API.
For the third-party and contractor population, yes. Cross-tenant Intune enrollment is usually blocked by the contractor's own organization, and contractors refuse a management profile on a personal device. PosturePass delivers unmanaged device compliance by verifying posture at access time, with no enrollment project, no MDM profile, and no VDI.
PosturePass supports Windows, macOS and Linux. No admin rights are required.
PosturePass generates documented, operating evidence for every device that touches your Microsoft 365 data, including devices you do not own. It directly supports the third-party access and device-control expectations under §500.7, §500.11, and §500.12, and produces the timestamped audit trail examiners ask for, without deploying MDM to broker or contractor devices.

Download the agent for your device, open the installer, and follow the prompts. Installation takes about five minutes. Then log in to your organization's portal as usual and PosturePass verifies your device automatically. No admin rights, no restart, and no special account required.
PosturePass checks device security settings. It does not read files, email, browsing history, or personal content.
Your organization has to prove that any device reaching its systems meets a minimum security bar, a core part of contractor device trust. Instead of forcing you onto a managed corporate device or a virtual desktop, PosturePass lets you keep using your own laptop while confirming it is secure enough to connect.
PosturePass runs in the background and keeps checking the laptop while you are signed in.
You get clear, specific remediation steps, for example turn on BitLocker or update your antivirus. Once fixed, you sign in again so PosturePass can re-check the device.
Yes. Because PosturePass does not enroll your device in management, you can uninstall it like any normal application. Note that you will no longer be able to pass your organization's device check, so you would lose access to the protected systems that require it until you reinstall.
